Anime Bloggin’ Tool: Spoiler Hider!

If there’s one thing I fear most while reading anime blogs, it’s spoilers! Whenever I see a potential spoiler, I scroll down as fast as I can and try to forget what I saw. Sometimes it’s too late, and the damage is done.

It doesn’t have to be this way, though! I found this wordpress plugin that can hide spoilers until the reader gives consent to view said spoiler. It’s really simple; you just use spoiler tags <spoiler> and </spoiler> with the spoiler inbetween.

Check out the plugin in action:

Rika's a man, baby, yeah!

In Hantsuki, Rika-chan is really a guy, and her heart’s not really messed up; she’s actually getting a sex change operation! When Yuuichi finds out about this, he turns to Akiko and her friend for some yakuza three-way lovin’!

Shocking, isn’t it!?

You can get the plugin here, or get the zip directly here (because the .phps file is less simple to install).

Note: I tried this plugin previously on WordPress 2.0, and for some reason it didn’t work. When I upgraded to 2.01, it worked fine. The plugin itself was designed to work for 1.5, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t. If you’re still running 2.0, maybe it’s time to upgrade?

PS: This plugin also supposedly works in the comment forms too, so spoil accordingly.

Email Notifications Update! + Fanservice!

Hey all! There’s just a few administrative things I’d like to tell my readers about. Ok, actually, there’s just one.

I had set up this thing on the sidebar that lets you sign up for email updates. It was powered using feedblitz or some other cool buzzword web 2.0 company. It wasn’t really to my liking, but since pretty much no one signed up for updates anyway, I was like, "meh." The problem with it was that it only sent emails once a day, and pretty much a day after the post was made.

Lo and behold, some people have recently signed up for email notifications! I’ve decided to change the system that I use. I’m now using the wordpress wp-email-notification plugin. This one is instantaneous and quite awesome. So if you’ve signed up for email updates previously, please sign up again (I promise you won’t get duplicate emails). And if you haven’t signed up, well, this is the perfect time*!

Oh, and don’t be worried that I’ll spam you or sell your email to anyone. You’ll only get emailed if I update my blog (and I’ll try to keep the updates to 1 a day at most!). Thanks for reading my rant, and have a nice day! And, uh, here’s some Binchou-tan fanservice for reading through it. (Did I just say Binchou-tan fanservice!?!?!)

Is it anime blog update season?

What with me updating my own blog’s theme, the banner contest over at Pretty Scythe and lolitron’s new IE hatin’ theme, I guess this is anime blog update season huh?

Maybe I will make a banner for the contest, maybe I won’t. Everyone’s doing it though! I actually have a cool idea for a header and tagline, but I dunno if I could actually implement it well.

How are my own headers looking? The Magikano one looks a bit out of place I know; maybe I’ll replace it with something monochromatic like the other ones. I feel that since I have a unique header (that rotates), and I’ve gotten comment spam, I’m a real blog now! Well, not me myself, but my blog.

And yeah, I’m hoping to actually blog about anime soon, but where are the subs for the new season? I could try previewing a series raw; now that would be comedy gold.

Basugasubakuhatsu site redesign!

You may have noticed that Basugasubakuhatsu Anime Blog looks a little different! Yep, after leeching off of the Blix theme for so long, I’ve decided to leech off of K2! It’s really an awesome theme. I’m gonna be working on it a little more, so expect a new header graphic and other coolness! Stay tuned!

Akismet Plugin really blocks comment spam!

Wow, I just got my first comment spam! This is a milestone of sorts for my little anime blog. I actually joked about wanting to get comment spam on Anime on My Mind. Maybe the spammers listened…

Anyway, the odd thing was that the spam didn’t even make any sense! It wasn’t like, "check out my site!" or anything like that. Why don’t I just include the text (minus the links of course):

Great post! I’m looking forward for more. Rape Soldier is very good Pair, Compute Mistery is very good Opponents when Pair is Slot it will Make Grass, Player will Gnome unconditionally when Mistery Percieve Pair Lose

I mean, WTF? Rape Soldier? At first I thought that could have been some anime, but then it was apparent that akismet really picked up the comment spam. Maybe I can collect these, and when I have enough, I can write a really crazy book!

If you’re having trouble with these kind of comments, I really do urge you to install the akismet plugin. That is, if you’re on wordpress.

Dreamhost = Bandwidth Galore!!!

I just logged into my Dreamhost Control Panel (the webhost that I use), and read an announcement that they’ve just quadrupled the disk space and octupled the bandwidth!

Seriously folks, this is a lot. Now I can serve a terabyte of stuff every month without going over my quota! On top of that, the allowed bandwidth increases by 8GB a week! For a quick comparison, I used about 1 GB of bandwidth my entire first month.

With all this extra bandwidth, I need some ideas on how to use it. I was thinking of serving MP3s, but I don’t know how legal that would be (is it legal if I serve the TV audio rips of OP and EDs?). My DDR Videos also kinda took some bandwith, but they’re fairly small.

Give me some ideas on how I can put all this bandwidth to good use… Of course, I think serving entire episodes is totally out of the question…

Oh, and if you were thinking of getting a webhost, seriously consider Dreamhost. The service is cheap ($7.95 a month if you prepay for a year) and pretty reliable. Tell em BasuGasuBakuhatsu (notoupee) sent ya! You can use the promo code BASUGASU50 when you register, and get $50 off, which also helps me pay for my hosting bill too! Awesome!

WordPress 2.0 Upgrade Impressions

So I finally decided to upgrade to WordPress 2.0 after reading about how awesome it is at itsumo anime blog. The process was pretty painless. Mostly I was worried that the entire blog would be burned to the ground. Most of the process is backing up in case the process fails, but the upgrade is so easy that it’s kind of hard to screw it up.

Cute Overload! (not really about anime)

Ok, so this admittedly doesn’t have anything to do with Anime, but this website is too cute! It’s called Cute Overload (I think Cute Overlord would be cool too), and it has nothing but pictures of cute animals. Kawaii!!!!!! Maybe a cute anime overload should be in the works next?

My Blog is worthless…

Here’s a neat blog trick that I found. It shows you how much your blog is worth. What with my blog being 1 day old and all, I don’t expect it to be worth much. But in fact, it has been proven worthless. Thanks Technorati, you just made my day! Actually, I’m just putting this on the side bar, so if in fact my blog ever became worth something, I would immediately sell it and buy an island to live the rest of my days.

My blog is worth $0.00.
How much is your blog worth?
