Shakugan no Shana-tan!

Shakugan no Shanatan shows what would happen if Shana somehow shrunk to the size of a mini-goddess. I guess this is a special feature on the Japanese DVD of Shakugan no Shana. It’s pretty much 3 minutes of pure (cute) craziness with Shana-tan sitting on Yuji’s head, eating melon-pan, sharpening her sword, drooling on Yuji’s head, and yelling "uruchai!" I think if cuteness could kill, I wouldn’t be here writing this. For some reason this episode also reminded me of Pugyuru. It’s probably just the craziness they share in common.

I really love this kind of self-referential humor. The anime takes stabs at itself and ends up with something that could really be a spinoff. Maybe not, but I’d sure as hell watch it! I can’t wait for the next installment of Shakugan no Shana-tan!

Recent anime video playback issues…

After I had downloaded the yu fansub version of Yomigaeru Sora Rescue Wings, I had sort of a hard time opening the file. I tried the Windows Media Player first, then the BS Player. After messing with a bunch of settings, I still couldn’t get the subs to show up. I was on the AnimeSuki forums, and it seems some other people had trouble getting those subs to show as well.

Yomiageru Sora Rescue Wings wasn’t really high on my list of anime to watch, but since new anime are scarce, I decided to give it a chance. Plus, what else am I gonna write about?

Sorta Weekly Poll of the Week: Anime Seiyuu, Authentic or Professional sounding?

First, the results of last week’s poll, How should Hantsuki be resolved?

Rika dies; Yuuichi is sad, yet he holds her memory dear to him 33% ( 1 )
Rika lives; Yuuichi and her get married like in the ED 0% ( 0 )
Rika dies; Yuuichi marries the chain-smoking nurse 0% ( 0 )
Rika lives; Yuuichi dies and Rika gets his heart (thanks, Elyscape!) 66% ( 2 )

Okay, so two of you said Yuuichi should die and Rika should get his heart. Now that’s a plot twist! I voted for Rika dies. Overall, kind of a sad turnout. That’s okay though, you can vote for the next poll!

How to: Automate Anime Downloads with Azureus and RSS Feeds

Hey all!

With the new anime season out in full swing, I thought I’d write a tutorial on how to automate your anime downloads using Azureus and RSS feeds. It’s pretty simple and I’ll walk you through the process with explanations and pictures.

Once you’ve set up the RSS URLs and the filters (don’t worry if this
makes no sense yet), Azureus can automatically check sites such as
Tokyotoshokan and Animesuki for newly released episodes and download
them for you.

If you find this tutorial helpful, let me know and I’ll try to come up with some more time-saving how tos that are anime related.

Blog Suki

Jason, of Anime on My Mind and Anime Blog Toshokan fame, has just rolled out a new and improved version of the latter. It’s called Blog Suki! Chances are, if you read my blog regularly, it’s due to the exposure I get from ABT or Animeblogger.net Antenna. The new and improved Blog Suki is looking really great. If you don’t know about it yet, check it out. There’s a ton of great blogs out there. Things I’ve noticed that are new or improved:

  • Search Feature!
  • Cache Feature (so you can see the past posts of a given blog)
  • Faster Indexing by way of pinging
  • A Series Popularity Size-O-Meter (Mai Otome, anyone?)
  • K2 Theme Prettyness, not that I’m biased toward that particular theme 😉

Overall, the service is looking great. Many thanks go out to Jason for providing anime fans with this awesome resource!

Blood: The Last Vampire – Anime Review

Saya

So I was browsing around the Blockbuster.com anime section (which is extremely weak; mostly pokemon!) and found this anime called Blood: The Last Vampire. The description said it was about this vampire named Saya who had to fight chiropterans. I thought the plot sounded kinda familiar. Apparently, this is the prequel to the TV anime series, Blood+. So that explains the "+" part. I wonder if they’ll make a sequel to that called "Blood++" (nerd joke, right here!)

Kage Kara Mamoru! – Anime First Impressions

Kage Kara Mamoru got my vote for most anticipated anime of the Winter 2006 season. Why? Ninjas. Yep, Kage Kara Mamoru has ninjas, which automatically makes it awesomer than all other shows. Or does it?

Lemon Angel Project – Anime First Impressions

Lemon Angel Project is a new Winter 2006 anime that didn’t really get that much press. I thought the character designs looked pretty good, and I was looking forward to watching it. I figured it might be like another anime, Wandaba Style, which was pretty cool. Days came and went, and it seemed no one was going to sub this anime. Finally MahouSekai-Fansubs decided to give it a go. Was it worth the wait?

So after watching Jigoku Shoujo, I figured the Japanese idea of "horror" is probably a lot different from my idea of it. Some parts of Jigoku Shoujo were actually pretty funny, so I expected to either be scared during this anime or laugh at it. Did I do either? You know the drill, read on to find out!
