Before I saw this episode, I only knew two things about Kagihime Monogatari Eikyuu Alice Rinbukyoku. For one, it has a really long name (let’s call it Kagihime from now on)! I also knew that certain characters would have bunny ears. After seeing the first episode, can I honestly recommend watching more of this anime? Read on to find out!
Month: January 2006
The results are in! Well, actually I just figured that the voting was kind of getting out of control (read: only 6 people voted), so I ended the poll. Anyway, here are the surprising results to the first ever Basugasubakuhatsu official poll, Which Winter 2006 anime are you looking forward to most?:
#1 REC
That’s right, REC won! It probably had something to do with the small sample size and large bust size of the girl in the picture. 3 people voted for REC, that’s 50%!
3-way tie for #2: Fate/stay night, Kage Kara Mamoru!, and Ginyuu Mokushiroku Meine Liebe Wieder
Yup, the other three votes were split. Guess who voted for Kage Kara Mamoru? Fate/stay night at least got one vote, and Ginyuu Mokushiroku Meine Liebe Wieder got the other. The poll results were kind disappointing, but I gotta start somewhere right?
Hot off the trail of this poll comes the current poll: Fillers: Yay or Nay?
After writing about the whole Beach Episode cliche stuff, I got to thinking about filler episodes. There’s also been a bunch of talk about the annoying Naruto filler episodes coming out.
My opinion is that fillers are ok as long as something meaningful (like character development) happens. That, or swimsuits! I’m looking for a higher turnout rate for this poll, so please register for the forums and vote! This poll runs for 1 week, so vote early, and vote often*!
*oh wait, you can only vote once, huh?
Anime Cliché Corner: The Beach Episode!
Today on the Anime Cliché Corner, I’ll be discussing one of the most prominent of filler episodes: The Beach Episode!
Almost every anime has filler episodes: The episode where nothing meaningful happens as the animators wait for the manga source to be finished. Although some filler episodes can be interesting, most of the time they draw from a pool (pun!) of cliché scenarios. The Beach Episode is usually just an excuse to show the females of the series in bathing suits (not that I’m complaining!).
The Beach Episode has been so refined that I can simply explain what happens without ever mentioning a particular series. Pretty much every Beach Episode is the same (with different characters of course), so here is a brief rundown of a typical Beach Episode:
For once, I’ve actually gone through with one of my New Year’s Resolutions! I finished watching Mahoraba ~Heartful Days~! If you’ve read my Top 5 Anime of 2005 feature, you already know this is my favorite anime of last year. And yes, I decided that before I even finished watching the series! Anyway, here is my full review of Mahoraba ~Heartful Days~ (complete with spoilers!):
I just logged into my Dreamhost Control Panel (the webhost that I use), and read an announcement that they’ve just quadrupled the disk space and octupled the bandwidth!
Seriously folks, this is a lot. Now I can serve a terabyte of stuff every month without going over my quota! On top of that, the allowed bandwidth increases by 8GB a week! For a quick comparison, I used about 1 GB of bandwidth my entire first month.
With all this extra bandwidth, I need some ideas on how to use it. I was thinking of serving MP3s, but I don’t know how legal that would be (is it legal if I serve the TV audio rips of OP and EDs?). My DDR Videos also kinda took some bandwith, but they’re fairly small.
Give me some ideas on how I can put all this bandwidth to good use… Of course, I think serving entire episodes is totally out of the question…
Oh, and if you were thinking of getting a webhost, seriously consider Dreamhost. The service is cheap ($7.95 a month if you prepay for a year) and pretty reliable. Tell em BasuGasuBakuhatsu (notoupee) sent ya! You can use the promo code BASUGASU50 when you register, and get $50 off, which also helps me pay for my hosting bill too! Awesome!
So last weekend, a couple of out-of-town buddies called me up and wanted to hang out. Their idea? Go to the mall. A trip to the mall isn’t really my idea of a good time, but I hadn’t seen those guys in a while, so off we went.
Happy New Year! + my anime resolution
Happy New Year to all. At least, I think the whole globe has gotten into the new year by now. How did everyone use their extra second? I used mine to sleep (I can use all the sleep I can get).
As the new year draws upon us, I have one anime-related New Year’s resolution: to finish the series I’m watching! Seriously, I’ve gotten pretty far in a bunch of anime, but haven’t completed them.
I think it’s partly a fear that unfinished series will be dropped by whoever’s subbing them, and I’ll never know happens (unless the series gets licensed). I also have this problem with RPGs (because I don’t want the experience to end), where I’ll stop right before the final boss (I did this in FF7).
Here’s a list of complete seasons of anime on my hard drive I resolve to finish watching(+ all the new ones I’ll watch this year):
- Bakuretsu Tenshi
- Full Metal Alchemist
- Futakoi Alternative
- Mahou Sensei Negima (on episode 19)
- Mahoraba (Only 2 episodes to go anyway!)
- Maburaho (Might’ve gotten this one confused with Mahoraba on occasion)
- Mezzo DSA (Why not? It’s short!)
- Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo (I just kinda started this one)
- ROD The TV (Kind of got uninterested in the plot, I’ll try again)
- Rozen Maiden (Season 1!)
- Sensei no Ojikan (I don’t want this one to end!)
- Tenjou Tenge (haven’t watched this in a while)
- Tsukuyomi Moon Phase (I need to get in the neko mimi mood)
- Ultra Maniac (Did someone say shoujo?)
Pretty big list, huh? I also didn’t include series that haven’t been fully subbed yet. Add those to the list, and I have a monumental amount of work ahead. Wait, did I say "work"? I mean anime enjoyment…
