Anime + Manga Backlog: The Great Wall of Manga

anime-manga-backlog-small.jpg

In the short time that Basugasubakuhatsu has been around, it seems the site has seen quite a bit of popularity. One of the perks of being a semi-popular anime site is that companies will occasionally send me their titles to review. Basugasubakuhatsu started off as an anime first impressions site, but I guess it’s more of a review-centric one now, at least, during the months that new anime aren’t starting in Japan.

Anyway, while I was out of town, I got a pretty huge care package from DrMaster Publications and CMX Manga. I’ve had a backlog of stuff to review for a while now (and I’ve been getting through it) but now the backlog is ridiculous.

I stacked all of the anime and manga that I haven’t reviewed yet, and it’s pretty much the Great Wall of China, except in anime and manga form. Some of these are my own purchases (Nodame Cantabile, Keroro Gunso, Niea under 7, Haibane Renmei) but most are review copies. Don’t forget, I also ordered those 10 DVDs from RightStuf not too long ago… Yikes.

Now I’m asking for your help. Is there anything in particular in this wall that you’d like to see reviewed? I’ll try and do the requests first if there are any. There are a few DVDs that I can’t quite review yet since I don’t have the previous ones in the sets. If you can’t make out what the titles are from the picture, lemme know and I’ll write them out. But that’d take about as long as writing a few reviews…

Lunar Legend Tsukihime – I keep looking at them but keep passing them up.

Do yourself a favor and move Versus to the top of the pile, too. I am really enjoying that series!

Hmmm… if I was from one of those companies I might be a little annoyed that you were letting it pile up unreviewed like that.

Why don’t you start with Ichigo Mashimaro? It’s pretty good.

I really liked Pretty Maniacs and Imperfect Hero; I like Stray Little Devil, too. Pretty Maniacs is a follow-on series to Maniac Road, but deals with high school (club) fandom instead of the business of fandom like Maniac Road did. Imperfect Hero is about G-Green, part of a 5 color hero team, who is torn between his duty as champion of justice, and his duty to the team. Stray Little Devil is about a girl who gets drawn into a world defined in its conflicts, which she tries to resolve.

@Julie – I guess I can take a look at Versus if you’re recommending it.

@Andrew F. – Yeah, I’ve been churning out reviews but the rate that I write them is slower than the rate that I get them. Plus I just got a crazy big package, which has created the great wall. I can try Ichigo Mashimaro (that’s actually one that I bought).

@Ash – Ok, Stellvia too.

@Galen – I started reading Stray Little Devil already because the cover is cool looking. I’ll try and check out the other ones you recommended too.

You know it already, but Haibane Renmei is an absolute must-see, whereas Galaxy Railways is a good candidate for the last spot on your watching list (well, the cheesiness makes it sort of funny but it’s still quite dispensable).

On the manga side, you need to take a peek at Ichigo Mashimaro if you haven’t yet (I guess you’ve watched the anime already and liked it?).

You should review the Boogiepop novels, then you can send me the third one. Seriously, its not in stock anywhere and I’m desperate for a copy!

Anyway, all joking aside, I’d be most interested in reading reviews of any of the novels first, as it’s harder to find information or opinions on those than it is manga.

I’d like to see reviews of the Boogiepop books you have there as well. That plus Tsukihime!

Good luck working through the mountain 🙂

I’ve really enjoyed Tsukihime so far. It’s much better than the anime. Sgt. Frog is very funny too! Though I’m behind on that one. I got 5 volumes for Christmas/Birthday, but have had so many other of my regulars that I haven’t had a chance to get to them!

I’d be interested to hear what you have to say about Junk too. I got that for my husband, but haven’t seen any reviews on it yet.
