So Otome wa Boku ni Koi Shiteru is kind of like Strawberry Panic, except for one difference: one of the characters is a dude in drag! I’m all for these wacky gender-bending anime. So how does this one compare to the likes of Ouran High School Host Club and Strawberry Eggs?
Miyanokouji Mizuho’s late grandfather was pretty awesome. In his will, his last request was that Mizuho attend an all girl’s Catholic school. For some reason, the head nun and teacher don’t see this as a problem at all… I think that the grandpa must’ve been a pretty big contributor to the school.
With the help of his childhood friend Mariya, he ends up being a convincingly hot girl. All the other girls at school are jealous of him… err… her? He still has a few things to learn about being a girl, like leaving the toilet seat down and talking femininely. Although it’s totally moe when a girl refers to herself as “boku.”
So this is just another harem anime, but at least they’ve got cross dressing involved. Mizuho is pretty much a girl anyway though. His seiyuu is Yui Horie, for gosh sakes! I’m not too sure which girl is the main one at this point. I’d bet on either the tsundere girl who wasn’t formally introduced, or Mariya.
I have a feeling that about 90% of this anime’s plotlines will involve Mizuho getting glomped by girls and fighting to control… himself. He’ll also have to keep his secret from all of the other girls. I’d hate to imagine the backlash that would occur if he were to be found out. Inevitably, the girls will fall in love with him, and question whether they’re lesbians or not. That totally already happened in Strawberry Eggs though.
The character designs are all pretty appealing. Yukari looks like a ripoff of Suzumiya Akane, but that’s okay since I like the design. Mariya would be my choice if I was playing the game, but we all know how childhood friend characters are always screwed (not literally) in these situations.
The animation is fairly average. They do go into chibi mode a lot. While I generally like it when they do chibi stuff, the chibi designs for this anime are really ugly/scary. Seriously, be afraid.
The OP starts off with some really bad Engrish. It gets better later on, though. The ED sounds kinda similar to the OP, but I’d say that the ED is slightly better. They’re still both not really playlist worthy to me though.

Otome wa Boku ni Koi Shiteru doesn’t really cover any new ground plot-wise. It seems fairly predictable, too. At least the character designs are good. If the anime manages to be at least slightly interesting, I’ll probably keep watching this.

I always wondered why anime girls dress so nicely in casual wear when they’re in an all girl school and they probably wont be leaving the dorms (pic 40-43). I see how it’s cruicial in order to put the lead into a fit of blushing, but beyond that i dunno (she’s wearing a lace bra ffs). Maybe it’s a girl thing.
Thanks for posting the mp3s of the OP and ED, not sure why but those are stuck in my head lately ^_^
nice fanservice ^^ I hope this can be something unique even with so many similar shows it is following, but not really putting my life on that.
be scared>
omg, a chibi in a *ee colored lightning blackhole *scared*
its ok, id think it wud b betta if they played up the boy aspect, i havent read the manga ( if ther is one) so i dunno if that will happen.
Thank you for having this review up. It is because of this that I decided to give Otome wa Boku ni Koi Shiteru a try. And once you get past the fanservice (which dies down pretty quickly), you get to find out that the anime is much more than it originally lets on. It’s a gentle, feel-good anime, in which the boy-at-girls-school is only the bait to lure you in. This is a light hearted, caring, and warm anime every bit deserving of and embodying the OP and ED songs.
yeah i really liked the anime it was quite good. i have almost the entire soundtrack and i listen to it all the time. the character relatioship development was good and the seiyuu for Mizuho (Yui Horie)was as good as ever. all in all this is one of my fav anime. thanks for the review it was a good one and you choose the rite anime ^^.
