Anime and Manga Banned in the US!?

negima.jpg

I just found this CNN story on digg.com about the United States banning anime and manga sales! Apparently they’ve decided that ALL forms of anime and manga are pornography, not just hentai:

The Child Pornography Prevention Act of 1996 made it illegal to possess or distribute any visual depiction that “appears to be” or “conveys the impression” of a child engaging in a sexually explicit act.

The Japanese media regularly presents under-aged characters in compromising positions. Some stories are merely suggestive, while others show graphic nudity of minors.

This is utterly ridiculous. I knew that Canada and Malaysia didn’t like anime, but the United States? This is the home of free speech! Just because some porn exists in anime and manga form, it doesn’t mean all of it is! They’re creating a blanket statement on all forms of anime and manga saying they’re porn! They’re even using Negima! as an example of underaged porn!

If you live in the United States, or care about free speech rights at all, I’d suggest you call your Senator or Congress person at once! I’m calling mine at 505-555-0401!

If this really happens, I might have to shut down the ol’ anime blog…

I take the article to mean that the article writer doesn’t know the difference between anime/manga and ero anime/manga. It doesn’t say that all anime/manga is banned, it says that “Cartoon pornography, known as “anime” to its fans, was one of the President’s major targets in his war against child pornography. Its comic book form, “manga,” was also being targeted.”

… I hope that this means that /only/ the pornographic stuff is banned.

… but Negima? child porn? What the fucking hell?!

There shall be no references of my homeland …in such mockery.

LOL@lolikitsune!

I’m hiding under a rock until this atrocious day ends…I’ve been punk’d three times by three different people. LOL they got me at where I’m most vulnerable (Mai Otome).

Yet I didn’t fall for this one…shame about the linkage.

Yeah, sorry I couldn’t just hijack the CNN website for a day… That would’ve been a good April Fools’ Joke. I figured people wouldn’t look at the bar, since they’re probably goin’ “HOLY CRAP, ANIME IS ILLEGAL!?”

On another note, let me know if I got you or not. I wanna know how my batting average is…

Funny. But I’ve seen too many since I woke up to get caught so easily (only Problematic got me, actually).

I thought the author of this blog fell for an april fools’ joke when I saw the link on blogsuki.

I’m a party pooper, so I checked out the url of your CNN article before reading it. You did a really good job on the article, by the way.

Happy April Fool’s Day! 🙂

Also, I love your Naruto theme. Or is that an April Fool’s theme as well? =)

I stabbed myself in the wrist with a spoon for fun and drew necromancer spell runes with the bloody handle after seeing this…

Now if someone here sees a demonic Belldandy/Hollybell Doll wandering around their neighborhood, please contact me at [email protected] with “Demonic Belldandy” in the Subject line.

But seriously not going to happen.
