Stray Little Devil volume 4 is a masterpiece. Of fanservice. Need I say more!? Well… okay.
Whoa, things really pick up in terms of storyline in this volume. For one, the actual underlying plot is developed. I’m pretty sure the plot of the book was deliberately kept extremely vague so that the author had time to figure out what the heck it would be. And he finally did, or was forced to make something up, at least.
Linfa finally switches from tsuntsun mode to deredere for Pam. This amounts to awesomeness. Then that one super powerful dude ends up getting the
Grand Seraph Lamington Chairman Aregna arrested on counts of treason. Apparently he stole some kind of ancient artifact.
This sets into motion events that cause Linfa to lose her powers. I guess I shouldn’t spoil the whole chapter, so I’ll just say that the end of this volume results in the climax of the series. And technically, I believe I’m using the term climax correctly, just like how they taught us in English class!
So the plot finally goes somewhere. Excellent. But as an added bonus, there seems to be even MORE fanservice in this volume. Plot AND fanservice? This volume is win. The volume actually starts with an awesome chapter where some entity goes crazy and starts declothing everyone. Vine-chan, kawaii yo!
Then there’s the long-awaited Pam X Linfa stuff. Awesome. My only complaint is that Vine just disappears once the plot starts happening. And there’s a new character added who’s kind of annoying. Ah, well, at least she gets in on the fanservice, too.
Also, Stray Little Devil is really starting to resemble another series that I dig, Disgaea. Dunno if it’s a coincidence or not. SLD is nowhere near as epic, but it’s hard not to notice the similarities.
Overall, this is a really great volume! I’m a really big fan of the artwork. It really makes reading Stray Little Devil a lot easier. I gotta find out if this Mori Kotaro guy is doing any other manga since SLD ends in the next volume.
