ADV Anime Licenses GET: Red Garden, Welcome to the NHK, Pumpkin Scissors, and Magikano!

red-garden.jpg

I just read on the ANN that ADV’s gotten a bunch of licenses for Gonzo anime. Oh, and Magikano isn’t a Gonzo one, but the others are.

Out of the four, I watched a bit of NHK and all of Magikano. Red Garden repelled me with the mega-shnozzes. Pumpkin Scissors had a really dumb name.

Magikano is excellent! Excellent and stupid, but I love it. NHK was good, but I got into the manga and stopped watching the anime.

Oh, and one weird thing about this announcement is that I’ve always thought that Funimation had some sort of deal with Gonzo (they’ve licensed a bunch of their stuff in the past, like Basilisk, Burst Angel, Desert Punk, Kiddy Grade, Speed Grapher, etc). Oh, and there was that one deal with Afro Samurai that they made too, right? But yeah, here comes ADV in Funimation’s turf, licensing their animes. [Insert cat macro here]

ah-my-goddess-2-1-cover.jpg

So I got a review copy of Ah! My Goddess! Second season DVD. But I’ve never seen the first season. Although I did watch a few of the OVAs like, a hundred years ago. So yeah, I watched it anyway.

Cromartie High School Vol. 3 – Anime DVD Review

cromartie-high-school-cover-3.jpg

So I watched the 3rd DVD of the Cromartie High School anime. For some reason, it’s a lot easier for me to sit through one of these than say, Kino’s Journey. I guess that means I have a short attention span. HEY, LET’S RIDE BIKES!

Nodame Cantabile Vol. 3 – Manga Review

nodame-cantabile-3-cover.jpg

So one good thing (or bad thing, depending on your opinion) about the Nodame Cantabile anime is that they skip a lot of stuff from the manga. So you can watch the anime, then read the manga and still get new content! New filler content!

Lovely Complex 5: It’s A Trap!

kansai-ben-maybe.jpg

So I’ve pretty much been watching Lovely Complex and Lucky Star as far as this anime season goes. I just finished watching Lovely Complex 5, and I have to admit, I didn’t see that coming. Seriously, uber cute girl being a trap? Anyway, I guess that means that the amazon is safe to dilly dally around for a few more episodes. She must be channeling Hamlet, waiting until it’s too late to kill her uncle king. Or in this case, date the short guy.

I couldn’t stop watching the Cromartie High School DVDs after I started, so here’s a quick review on the next DVD, entitled “Hey Dude.” Just like that old live action cowboy show on Nickelodeon!

The Recipe For Gertrude Vol. 2 – Manga Review

the-recipe-for-gertrude-2-cover.jpg

So Julie from MangaManicCafe had told me in the comments section of my review of Recipe For Gertrude 1 that the manga gets better as the story progresses. This was especially good news, since I thought the first volume was good to begin with! So yeah, here’s my review of The Recipe For Gertrude Volume 2.

Cromartie High School Vol. 1 – Anime DVD Review

cromartie-high-school-cover-1.jpg

Cromartie High School is a manga turned anime that’s in my favorite genre: random. You know, like Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, Sexy Commando, and Gag Manga Biyori? I got the whole series during that ADV sale, so I figured I should watch some of it.

Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo Vol. 1 – Anime DVD Review

bobobo-dvd-cover.jpg

Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo is one of my all time favorite anime. I watch, I laugh. It’s really that simple. I even bought the manga version in order to get my Bobobo fix. I recall seeing it on Cartoon Network for a while, but that wouldn’t do, since I wanted to watch it in Japanese. Finally, Illumitoon released the Bobobo DVD with Japanese subtitles*, so here’s my review!
