Hitohira has been out for quite a while, but I finally had a chance to check it out. Raw style! I will tell you right now: If you like highlights (like the hair ones), you will need to watch this anime!
Mugi is a shy introvert just starting her first year in high school. When she gets nervous, Mugi becomes a mute, and just sorta flaps her lips around with no sound coming out. This is moe. When she isn’t super nervous, however, she can yell really loudly, like when she finds out that she’s in the same class as her best friend.
Mugi plans out her class introduction and even has a fantasy about delivering it really well, but in the end, she chokes from the pressure. Also, she headbutts a classmate who runs in late. He gets her revenge later on, however.
When the two must decide which club to join, Mugi initially wants to join the photography club with her best friend. But her friend tells her find a club of her own, rather than just tagging along, since Mugi doesn’t really have an interest in photography.
After having to carry some art supplies into storage, Mugi comes across a really sweet dress. It’s a costume from the drama club. She totally gets enamored by it, to the point that she hallucinates about it when she gets knocked down by the headbutted classmate. Okay…
Meanwhile, there’s a sort of sideplot involving a really cute blonde student who is totally into the drama club. She heartily signs up to be a part of the drama club. I’m assuming she’ll have some crazy adventures with Mugi later on.
Soon after, Mugi is tricked into signing her life away into the drama club as well. Ummm, who’s doing the recruiting anyway? “Hey, I’ve got a good idea! Let’s get the girl who can’t talk to join the drama club!”
So how do I feel about this anime? It’s pretty sweet. We’ve already got like 2-3 yuri pairings, and a super moe girl who can’t talk. For the record, here’s what I found to be moe:
Girls who can’t talk, winking girls, girls holding hands, girls staring into each others’ eyes, girls with hearts for eyes, girls biting on cloth (and blushing), girls being embarrassed (and blushing), girls staring into each others’ eyes (part 2), and this.
MOEEE!
I really like the character designs in Hitohira. They’re not the most original, but they look good. I especially like drama senpai and the twintails blonde. I didn’t really get anyone’s name but Mugi. Whoops.
The animation and art quality are both really, really good. This anime wins the Basugasubakuhatsu award in the area of highlights. The hair ones. Like seriously, they look all glowy and awesome! I really like how this anime looks.
So overall, due to the (suggestive) yuri and the nice art, I’ll put Hitohira on my watch pile, as long as someone decides to sub it. I understood quite a bit of the anime raw, but I could really use subs at some parts.

Nice review. I’ll have to check it out if some group subs it.
i thought mugi joined the drama research club
great review here. i gotta see which subs has this series or else im grabbing raws..
I guess it’s possible that she joined the drama research club. I watched it raw so I might’ve missed the details.
It’s being subbed by some group called “one”, but baka-updates has basically zero information lol.
