Spring 2007 Anime Preview: Part 3

Part 3 of my Spring 2007 anime preview contains facts (or made up lies) about sola, Princess Resurrection, Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo, THE SKULLMAN and Nagasarete Airantou. Can you separate the fact from fiction? I can’t!

sola

At the time of me writing this, there isn’t a translation anywhere for the plot of sola, and I’m finding it hard to translate myself since the text on the website is embedded in the image instead of actual text. Here is what I got without using a dictionary (because I’m lazy):

Something about a first year high school student who is a boy who likes “the sky.” And ummm, then something about a present, and something something “gothloli.” Sounds interesting all right! I’m guessing “sola” is referring to the “sora” (sky) in the anime description. But I could be wrong.

Other than that, the character designs do look good, and anidb says it’s a collaboration between the writer(s?) of Kanon and Da Capo. I’ll be watching because it looks pretty for now.

Kaibutsu Oujou (Princess Resurrection?)

kaibutsu-oujou.jpg

So it’s Kaibutsu Oujou, aka “Princess Resurrection.” But I looked it up and kaibutsu means monster… It looks like this is a horror anime, though the title character seems pretty cute to me. Even with the scary ball and chain.

I really like the character designs. Even with the small amount of info (like, a few sketches and that’s it) I still really wanna watch this anime.

Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo

kono-aozora-ni-yakusoku-wo.jpg

Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo (Make a promise to this blue sky?) is an anime based on an h-game. There actually seems to be very few h-game conversions this season, huh? According to a thread on Animesuki, it’s about a school that barely has any more students. There’s only five girls and one boy. Funny how that works out, huh?

I found out that you can download the theme song from the official website. It’s from KOTOKO! I might end up watching this since it seems pretty mellow and relaxing.

THE SKULLMAN

the-skullman.jpg

THE SKULLMAN is an anime that needs to be referred to in ALL CAPS! It’s also done by Studio Bones. How ironic. Get it? SKULLMAN? BONES? Ha ha ha!

It’s about some crazy dude who wears a skull mask and rides around in his motorcycle committing mass murder? I guess it’ll be something like a murder mystery show. I tried watching the trailer but it doesn’t work too well for me. I’m not really too interested anyway though.

Nagasarete Airantou

nagasarete-airantou.jpg

Now this is what I’m talking about! Ikuto Touhohin stows away on a ship that ends up getting caught in a major storm. He ends up washing up on a (mostly) deserted island. The only people who live there are cannibals hot girls!

I’m thinking this is gonna be like an anime version of Gilligan’s Island! Except ecchi! Because the original Gilligan’s Island had too many guys, and not enough Gingers and Mary Anns. It’s reminding me of Mahoraba, though I’m not really sure why. This looks like a fun anime so I’ll watch it for sure.

I feel like I’ve seen Sola before…or a hundred times before. Same with Airantou. Same with Kono Aozora, but two hundred times.

I can’t get any initial impression on Kaibutsu Oujou since there’s no info.

So the only one from this bunch I’m looking forward to is The Skullman. I saw the trailer and it looks good, like all Studio BONES anime do. And if the show sucks, at least it should have a good soundtrack, music being by Shiro Sagisu, and all.

I love the way the Sola character designs seem so perfectly ripped from other shows…still, I can’t help feeling curious about it.

I’m cautiously optimistic about Skullman, hopefully it will be more Wolf’s Rain than Jyu-oh-sei in terms of quality.

Skull and motorcycle, huh? The Skullman must be Ghost Rider!

Hmmm…sola looks like it could be good, it’ll help fill the void until D.C.II gets animated someday. Nagasarete Airantou is probably the hardest series to explain to people without making it sound completely stupid, but somehow the manga makes me laugh anyway, so I’m looking forward to that too.

    and a lurker posts….

Skullman is a show that was created ( the first show actually!) by Shotaro Ishinimori a.k.a. creator of Kamen rider.

Doremi translated the Prologue of Sola audio drama. Though it wasn’t anything overly special, it left me intrigued enough.

I think that, at least for the voice actors (Mai Nakahara, Mamiko Noto, Ai Shimizu, Keiji Fujiwara…), it’s worth checking.

THE SKULLMAN looks too much like Ghost Rider…suspicious.-_-

The “Kaibutsu” girl can’t be very cute if she likes holding that spiked ball tightly against her breast. (puncture wounds!)

sola sounds good as the writers also did kanon and da capo, while i love the nagasarete airantou manga, though the anime looks pretty crap at the moment, so not sure about that one

The series Kaibutsu Oujou is called Princess Resurrection like you thought, and it’s a good series for not too gruesome horror fans. Haven’t seen it animated yet, but the characters and the story line is pretty good. not intended for children with the blood content. Cool.
