It's a shame they were pretty much killed off by Amazon opening their Japanese store. In any case, I remember this particular situation pretty well. Originally it was only actually available in a handful of stores in Japan - the only online store those outside Japan could buy it from was (the sadly now defunct) Amotokyo, and that was only because they went to the animators and asked if they could carry it. Basically, this whole OAV was pretty much funded by the staff, which is why it's only, like, 40 minutes long. It was given a wider release later after it gained a reputation, but that wasn't until quite a while later. Both episodes may be predictable but I thought they were a lot of fun, and a nice way of showing that making anime is anything but easy.
