Fall 2006 Anime Preview: Part 3

In part 3 of my many-parted Fall 2006 Anime Preview, I take a quick peek at Death Note, D.Gray-man, Tokimeki Memorial, and Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge:

Death Note

Death Note is the story of a really smart kid, Raito Yagami, who picks up a Shinigami’s notebook. The book enables him to kill whoever he wants by writing their name in the book. Raito uses the book to kill all of the top criminals of the world. L, a super detective, is sent in to stop Raito.

I read and reviewed the Death Note Manga Volume 1 a while ago, so you can check out my impressions here. I really liked the manga, so I’m looking forward to the anime adaptation.

D.Gray-man

D.Gray-man is another Shonen Jump manga that was released in the US. I haven’t read this one, however. It’s about a kid who’s born with the power to defeat “Akumas.” Like that really tough dude from Street Fighter II? Apparently the akumas are trying to destroy the earth.

I’m not sure about the story, but the art seems pretty cool, so I’ll definitely keep an eye out for this anime.

Tokimeki Memorial

The weird thing about Tokimeki Memorial is that I already knew about it from a bunch of other anime. Tokimeki Memorial is pretty much parodied in almost every anime that does a dating sim parody. I think this anime will be worth watching for that fact alone!

The character designs seem decent enough. It makes sense, since the game that this anime was based on became hella famous. If watching this anime helps me understand future references to it, I’m there.

Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge

Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge.jpg
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge might win the award for strangest promo pic yet. It features a bunch of naked girls(?) covered by rose petals with a scary mansion and the personification of death in the background…

Apparently it’s about a girl who’s given up on looking pretty. Some girls get free rent at her house in return for turning her “into a lady.” So I’m thinking this will be the anime equivalent to “She’s All That.” Hmmm… Not sure if I’m gonna watch this or not yet…

wonder if the deathnote anime will follow the manga all the way to the end, or finish with the 1st (and imo superior) arc. other than deathnote, i’m looking forward to d-gray man and tokimeki memorial

In the manga for Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge, should be “some bishies get free rent at her house in return for turning the emo chick “into a lady.â€? I only read the first few chapters and it was pretty funny, but I’m afraid the gimick might get played out very fast.

Whoa whoa whoa, Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge is being made into an anime? So bizarre, I never thought that would actually happen. XD I’ve read the first six volumes, and it’s pretty funny. It’s somewhat repetitive, but amusing. They really look….girly in the anime promo picture though! (If you want to see what the manga covers look like, I’ve scanned and uploaded the covers (the American title is The Wallflower) here.

I’m really looking forward to Tokimeki Memorial for the same reason! All of those paradies make me so curious.

Seconding moyism and Kite’s comments about their gender.. XD I’m not a big fan of the manga, but it’s moderately funny and pretty different than most other shoujo. The makeover isn’t as big of a part of it as you initially think (at least in the 3-4 volumes I’ve read) — the goal is there, but it isn’t immediately attainable.

I’m hoping this will turn out similar to Ouran: so-so manga but an excellent anime adaptation. (Yeah, dream on, I know..) With both series, I just didn’t find their manga counterparts very funny.

Noo, not Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge! The guys looked super weird in the manga (I wouldn’t classify them as “sexy”, only “okay”, and now they seem tons weirder in the anime…

First thought when I first saw the pic for Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge “OMFG Female Ouran HIgh School Host Club!!!! Crossdressing male Haruhi!!!”

Tokimeki Memorial is the grand-daddy of all dating SIM. it was the first well-crafted dating SIM with compelling characters. Basically, if you are a guy, there will be a girl in that game you’ll like. But from the picture, none of the three girls are from the original game though…

Deathnote is awsome and I can’t wait for the anime, There was also movie verison that seems pretty good.

Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge is a really funny manga, I’ve read till volume 14, it’s got a quirky type of humor similar to Ouran High School Host Club

OMG! *dies* ‘The Wallflower’ (Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge) is becoming an anime O__O;;; *dies again* this would be the last manga I thought would become an anime O_o;;; I like the manga, so I guess it would be worth watching the anime! When’s it coming out exactly? This is gonna be so much fun!

I’m really anxious to watch the Death Note anime, since my sister won’t let me read the manga… (she bought it… T_T) Does anyone know if there are any previews going around?

I actually preferred the manga version of host club because the anime killed the characters and it will also probably be case with the wallflower. I don’t really see how they carry out this manga in anime version that won’t butcher the plot.

i did really like these drawings ,Iam 17, I like drawing only the mangas and much better not us you think
