Here’s my much anticipated sequel to the in depth (not really) look at the Summer 2006 anime season! I call it, Summer 2006 Anime Preview! Part Dos!
Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z
Hey, it’s the Powerpuff Girls, and they’re all anime’d out! While it’s true that the original Powerpuff Girls were not much to look at (they didn’t even have fingers!), these ones look kinda wrong. It just feels like they’ve been mutated into generic mahou shoujo with weapons. As a (sorta) fan of the original Powerpuff Girls, I’ll be watching this anime, if only to point out everything that sucks about it. Then again, Buttercup is totally a natural tsundere…
Otogi-Jushi Akazukin
Otogi-Jushi Akazukin had an OVA in February 2005, but it looks like only the 1st episode was subbed. The anime is about the world being divided into two; one of magic and one of science. And one boy holds the key to unlock the seal between worlds! Sounds kinda generic, but the character designs look sweet! Seriously, helmets with wings are the new ahoge! Or something like that.
Mamotte! Lollipop
Info on this anime is kinda non-existent right now, but here’s my understanding: Nina, a normal girl, swallows a ball that’s supposed to be used in some kind of magical academy scavenger hunt. She thought it was candy… Now she’s the object in the scavenger hunt, and a pair of boys have to be with her 24/7. I guess they’re waiting for her to pass the ball… Seems extremely shoujo to me, but people are saying the manga is pretty good, so I’ll check it out.
Tsuyokiss
Tsuyokiss seems to be your run-of-the-mill harem anime. The official site bills it as “A ‘Tsundere’ TV Animation.” It does appear that all the girls are pretty tsundere looking in nature. If you go to the website, all the girls are tsuntsun, and when you mouse over them, they turn all deredere. Hours of fun! Anyway, the character designs look really good for this anime, too. Tsunderekko lovers, take note of this anime.

The face of the character you posted above looks a bit like Miu from Ichigo Mashimaro when she’s not going fucking nuts. Is this show going to be delightfully loli?
I’ve been waiting for more Otogi-jushi Akazukin since the OVA was released. Supposedly the story behind it is that it was an experimental idea by Konami, and that the entire series, storyline to supporting characters, was based off of an Akazukin figurine created by them. I don’t recall ever hearing about a series that had that kind of a start…
Sure, it probably won’t end up being “teh bestest series evar!!1!” or anything like that, but the animation is great, the character designs are wonderfully colorful and unique, and the end theme (at least in the OVA) is quite good~
I really just want to see what happens next. The OVA had so little closure. Not a ton, but just enough to have you going, “Aww, c’mon, where’s the rest of it?”
Tsuyokiss looks like it has a sweet animation style. The color work has almost a Pani Poni Dash! thing going on, only not. Very vibrant and well defined. I’m looking forward to it, if only to find out if it’s lame or not.
I wanna see what Buttercup looks like when she turns into a super-saiyajin! (And if Bubbles did it, how would anyone know? Her hair is already blonde!)
You could tell because her hair turns…PURE WHITE…with…LIGHTNING BOLTS AND STUFF.
I am fosho a Tsundere lover. I likes my women strong, damnit! Which is not to say I don’t appreciate the idea of some of the more… tame(?) ladies, but MAN all the Tsuyokiss girls look interesting. A challenge if you will.
And you’re right. All the damn PPG girls look wrong. I haven’t grabbed ep1 yet, but I plan to tonight to see how things look in motion.
I’m looking forward to Tsuyokiss very much. ^^ It’s really popular in Japan that the official site is getting rammed now since the trailer just came out. D:
