I usually don’t write per episode posts, but I figured I’d chime in on this episode since it’s the last one, and the series was kind of short to write a whole review for it. And in case you were wondering, yes, spoilers await you ahead! Turn back, ye who haven’t seen Hantsuki 06 yet!

In the beginning of this episode, we find out that the surgery went fine and Rika will probably be okay for the time being. Phew! Natsume reminds me of that doctor in Arrested Development that keeps giving the family bad news:

Doctor: It looks like he’s dead.
Michael: Just to be clear. Looks like he’s dead, or he is dead?
Doctor: It just looks like he’s dead. He’s got like blue paint on him or something. But he’s going to be fine.

Anyway, Rika gets well enough to go back to her room, and Yuuichi is served with a restraining order for taking her out of the hospital so many times. At first, he just gives up, but after being led on (by Natsume, no less!) he hatches a plan. With the help of his friends and Zebra Mask (and Zebra Mask the second!), he rappels down into Rika’s room and finally gets to talk with her. Though she’ll never make a full recovery, Yuuichi will stay with her until the very end. Or at least until she gets fat.

Finally, we see the cute couple on top of the mountain again. Although they don’t know how long they can be together, they’ll use the time they have to make fond memories. Yadda yadda yadda.

At first, I was pretty disappointed with the ending. No one dies!? WTF! Upon hours of thought, however, I guess this is probably the best ending they could have come up with. If Rika just died during the operation, I’d still be sitting in my room sulking about it right now. If Rika made a full recovery, it would be way too sappy and unrealistic. With this ending, they can still be together, and Yuuichi has time to marry her and inherit her fortune!

Watching this episode a second time, I thought Akiko was really cute. She actually acted like a semi-decent nurse this time! Just watch, after Rika croaks, I have a feeling Yuuichi will be on her (and Misako, and his childhood friend) like white on rice! White rice, that is.

I think this anime’s biggest flaw was how short it was. The Hantsuki manga is 6 volumes long. There’s absolutely no way to fit 6 volumes of manga into 6 episodes of an anime. A lot of parts in this anime seemed rushed, including Yuuichi’s affair with Misako, and pretty much the entire last episode.

To make up for this seriously compressed feel, I propose a second season of Hantsuki. The new season will show us the adventures of Rika and Yuuichi living everyday life. Each episode will end with a clock showing how long Rika has left to live, a la Mahoromatic! 114 days until Rika expires? Oh, the tension! Hopefully the ending to the second season won’t be as WTF-inducing as Mahoromatic S2…

i totally agree i just finished watching the series and was sure there had to be more. the should at least settel down somewere. although i think the timebomb on rika is a bad idea. still more episodes are requiered. i never knew there was a manga though if you could post a link that would be awsome!

more freaking episooodes!
me and my friend just sort of stumbled upon the series while looking for a clip of some half time show (wtf?) and we planned to watch it every day.
by the second day it was over and we were pissed.

we want more.
now.
period.
end. of. story.

Hmm, yeah I guess I can say that I agree with you to a certain extent. Yes, it was too short. I think we should have seen more to this series; although I didn’t really think anything was rushed. I never read the manga, so that may contribute to my analysis, but I thought every scene was well executed. I loved the music and EP theme, which was a huge plus on my side. I’m in the film business, and I listen to soundtracks almost daily. I really wouldn’t mind adding this to my collection, along with Rumbling Hearts.

To conclude, I thought this was short and sweet. I also found it very depressing at times. Just the whole hospital scene of two young (good looking) kids whom are terminally ill always makes me cringe. This is where my understanding of emotional psychology comes in.. hehe.

But yeah, very nice review.

Don’t worry, i loved the ending too =D
though i can guess what Yuuichi said at the ending of episodes 1 and 6, can someone tell me in exact english words what he said.
it’s going to eat me away if i don’t know >_

I want more. It was great, the soundtracks, the drawing, the story. Nothing was rushed, all was going in a normal speed and the ending was fine. I am still curious what exactly Yuuichi said, and wanna see more about them after the last episode. But if ya watched the ED u should know, that they married and stuff – I mean the photos in the ED video. But i still wanna it to continue – even a next generation /the children of the two/ will do it :D. But a R2 would be great, asked people around, but there was no talk about one at all. I have seen a trailer for the Live-Action /opened the wrong link by acident/, but I hate them – BTW: Reika looked in the LA horrible – don’t wach it, it destroys the entire image…

Well if a R2 comes out, let me know!

I really love this anime. The whole anime was still realistic and everything that happed were possible to happen. Even the ending was very good, though it was a little sad for me because I prefer a full recovery.

I’d love to watch a season 2 too and your idea about the ticking clock, but I am hoping for a happier ending to close the series. The OP and EP music were really good too and i DLed it and I have it in my play list.

Does anybody know a site which contains an English MANGA and/or the English LIGHT NOVEL? I’d really appreciate it
