Recent anime video playback issues…

After I had downloaded the yu fansub version of Yomigaeru Sora Rescue Wings, I had sort of a hard time opening the file. I tried the Windows Media Player first, then the BS Player. After messing with a bunch of settings, I still couldn’t get the subs to show up. I was on the AnimeSuki forums, and it seems some other people had trouble getting those subs to show as well.

Anyway, I checked the AnimeSuki Playback Help page, and went through the whole process of installing the suggested software. After I did, the subs still didn’t show up in the previous two players, but they did show up in Media Player Classic. I’m not too sold on the interface of MPC yet, and I use BS Player to do screen caps. Hopefully I can find a way to get BS Player to work with those subs. Or just watch another sub group’s anime. Anyway, it was thanks to that AnimeSuki tutorial that I got it somewhat working. If you’ve had problems with getting your subs to show up correctly, I’d suggest following the steps in the tutorial.

One more thing: now I’ve been experiencing some really choppy playback on the ShinTabi version of Hantsuki 02 (version 2). Has anyone else noticed this, or is my computer getting fubared?

As much as I like BSPlayer, it doesn’t handle MKV containers very well. You might try a different video rendering mode (I can only get softsubs to show when using overlay mode, for example). Unfortunately, even if you can get the subtitles show up, you’ll be stuck with a default font (in other words, no styling). And, in a worst case scenario, you may experience random application crashes with certain files. So, MPC really is your best bet for the time being.

As for the choppy playback problem… if you installed some sort of pack to get MKV files working, it’s possible you’re now two conflicting ffdshow installs. If so, try uninstalling the original version.

If all else fails, use MKVextract to rip the subtitle track from the file, rename it to .ssa and drop it in the same directory as the .mkv file.

The player should pickup the .ssa file automatically and display subs normally then.

I have problems with MKV using BSplayer as well. I have CCCP installed and it works perfect for everything, but I too am not a huge fan of the MPC interface (nor ZoomPlayer). I use MPC for MVK only and run everything else with BSplayer.

I’m using for a while BsPlayer and , in my opinion, is the greatest player because is equipped with a extensive subtitle options which enable the users to watch video content with subtitles from many popular subtitle formats. I got it from here: rosoftdownload.com/download/Windows/BSPlayer
