Winter 2006 Anime Preview! Part one!

In preparation for the new year, I’m going to go through a few of the new season’s anime. Nothing in-depth here, since I haven’t even heard of most of these anime, and I can’t read the Japanese on the webpages (darn kanji!). Please enjoy the following conjecture and pretty pictures:

(P.S. You can vote for your most anticipated Winter 2006 anime at the forums!)

Fate/stay night

 Fate/stay night
Arguably the most anticipated new anime of the season, Fate/stay night is based on an h-game turned manga. This anime comes from the same studio that did Tsukihime. I really liked that one, so I’ll keep an eye on Fate/stay night. From the website, all of the character models look pretty cute too.

Kage Kara Mamoru!

Kage Kara Mamoru!
Kage Kara Mamoru! is my choice for super awesome anime this season. For one thing, it has ninjas! Actually, that’s kind of all it has going for it. Oh wait, it also has one of my favorite literary devices, the pun, in it’s title (I think). "Kage Kara Mamoru" translates literally to "I’m a shadow (ninja?), so I protect!" The main character’s name is "Kagemori Mamoru" Get it!? Oh, I should write what this show is about.

Basically, this kid is a nerdy type who wears spiral eyeglasses. But when he needs to protect Konnyaku Yuna, he springs into action as a super-leet ninja! Despite the plot seeming kind of cliche, I think the characters are pretty well designed, and I’m a sucker for ninja, so I suggest you watch out for this one when it comes out!

Kashimashi ~Girl meets Girl~

Kashimashi ~Girl meets Girl~
From the sometimes reliable translation of animenfo, Hazumu is a normal boy who confesses his love to Yasuna, gets attacked by aliens, and as a result has a sex change. Ok, so this is sort of sounding like an h-game plot (not that I play those…), but it’s shojou ai, so I can dig it. The character designs look sort of generic, but they’re cute enough to get my attention. This anime is already noteworthy for its title, so I’ll be sure to check it out. You had me at "girl meets girl!"
